Domestic Abuse: Mental Health, Trauma and Self-Care


This course explores the links between mental health issues, trauma and domestic abuse including ways that services can be better equipped to work effectively with survivors through trauma-informed approaches.


  1. Define the most common mental health disorders.

  2. Recognise how trauma impacts the brain and influences behaviours.

  3. Clarify the link between post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and domestic abuse.

  4. Establish ways in which you can adopt trauma-informed practice in your role.

  5. Identify vicarious trauma and good self-care.

*Eligibility: This course is more advanced, places for this course are only available to those who have sufficient Dynamics and Skills training and have completed STADV training days 1 and 2.
